About us

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) (PVC(ESE)) works closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (DVC(A)) to promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.

The PVC(ESE) leads the Student Enrichment and Success division which is committed to enhancing student academic achievement and personal growth through employability and enrichment activities. It also fosters a sense of belonging and supporting success throughout the student learning journey.

The PVC(ESE) also leads strategic projects, including embedding academic language support for students, and supporting student transition to university. These initiatives aim to provide a distinctive student experience enriched by UQ's research capacity.

Governance

The PVC(ESE) promotes strategies, policies and practices through the Academic Board's Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Committee and Committee for Academic Programs Policy.

The PVC(ESE) also participates in several key groups that assure integrity and excellence, including:

  • chairing the University Misconduct Board
  • sponsoring key educational networks, including the Teaching Focused Network and the Integrity Officers Network, that facilitate whole-of-UQ sharing of practices and consultation
  • chairing the VC’s student-facing Sexual Misconduct Advisory Group. The group develops strategies and programs with students-as-partners to ensure a safe campus that's free from gender-based violence.

These initiatives are aligned to The Queensland Commitment, UQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan and the Learning and Student Experience Roadmap.

The Student Enrichment and Success (SES) Division, led by the PVC(ESE), coordinates, delivers and promotes activities including access and transition programs; volunteering, mentoring, internships and research experiences; career development and leadership opportunities, and the UQ Employability Award.

SES also provides support to enable students to access experiences and translate, articulate, and transfer these experiences into future success.

Further PVC(ESE) initiatives include:

  • co-developing the Student Voice Forum with UQ Union to enable broader approaches for student consultation and representation
  • embedding Indigenising of Curriculum into policy in partnership with the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement)
  • refreshing orientation and transition for new students guided by UQ values, reconciliation and inclusion
  • partnering with students and staff to deliver the 10th annual Students as Partners Roundtable, with increased participation from universities in the Global South.
  • leading the cross-institutional ‘students and artificial intelligence (AI)’ project to gather evidence from students to inform UQ’s AI action plan implementation.
